NOTES

1. Kilipet is a pseudonym for a village in the southern Indian province of Puducherry where the Swaminathan Foundation’s IVRP operated. All location and interviewee names, including village residents and KWs, are anonymized in this chapter. The exceptions are IVRP personnel, who were already associated publicly with the project (and linked with all VKCs, making it unlikely that their names could be used to de-anonymize Kilipet).

2. In addition to observations and interviews, details about Kilipet village and its VKC users draw on records obtained from the VKC and hub in 2009. These include the “Village Profile” created by each VKC and collated at the hub, user registers maintained at the VKC, and monthly and annual usage reports submitted by the VKC to the hub.
